Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser details to help detect spam.

An anonymised string created from your email (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible alongside it.

Media

If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract this data from images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you can opt-in to save your name, email, and website in cookies for future convenience. These cookies last for one year.

When you log in, we will set cookies to store your login details and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and display preferences cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out will remove the login cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, a cookie will be saved to indicate the post ID of the article, expiring after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to allow follow-up comments to be approved automatically.

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold, excluding data we are required to retain for legal or security reasons.
